Frequently Asked Questions

Why is a Will or LPA really necessary?
A Will makes sure your wishes are followed after your death, and a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) lets someone you trust make decisions for you if you can’t. Without these, the law decides which may not reflect what you want. Having these documents in place makes things simpler for those you care about and ensures your wishes are respected.
Are you a regulated solicitor firm?
Your Life List Ltd is not a regulated solicitor firm, but we work in association with Countrywide Tax & Trust Corporation Ltd (CTTC), a UK-based legal company specialising in estate planning, asset protection, and probate services. Our team has completed professional training with CTTC, ensuring that our advice and documentation align with industry standards and legal best practices. CTTC also provides us with access to their specialist software for will writing, trust drafting, and powers of attorney, all of which are regularly reviewed and updated by their legal team to reflect the latest laws and regulations. If a solicitor’s input is required, CTTC are always available to offer advice. Alternatively, if you would prefer to work directly with a solicitor, CTTC would be happy to consult with you.
Is my information safe?
Yes. The YLL App is cloud-based and encrypted for secure anytime access. Paperwork is stored in CTTC’s offsite waterproof, fireproof secure facility. You and your chosen executors/trustees can access documents when needed. If Your Life List stops trading, your information remains available via the app. We are ICO registered and hold the necessary GDPR certifications.
How do you collect my information?
Your information is collected safely and securely. Depending on the service, this may be through a confidential conversation, during a video, telephone or face-to-face meeting, or via a secure online portal using the Your Life List app. All online information is encrypted and securely stored, while any physical documents are kept safely off-site in a protected facility. Your Life List is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and fully complies with UK GDPR requirements.
How long does the process take?
Documents are usually completed within around six weeks of instruction. The registration of a Lasting Power of Attorney is managed directly by the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG), and their processing times can sometimes vary. On average, registration takes around 12 to 16 weeks, but this can change depending on their workload. I’ll always keep you updated on progress and let you know if there are any changes or delays, so you can feel confident that everything is moving forward smoothly.
How do I start the process?
We will begin with an initial call to talk through your circumstances and what you’d like to achieve. From there, I will gather the essential information to prepare your documents. Depending on the service, this may involve completing a secure online questionnaire through the Your Life List app, or arranging a call or meeting to go through everything together. Meetings can take place in person, by video call, or by telephone, whatever suits you best. Once your documents are prepared, they will be sent to you for signing. After they are returned to me, I will check, register, and securely store them, then send you your copies or originals, depending on your chosen option.
How do I keep my documents up to date?
Yes. Life changes, marriage, divorce, children, moving home, or health changes, often mean updates are needed. Our subscription service includes an annual check-in so your documents stay current. But we are happy to create a bespoke service if you would like to have more regular updates made to your documents.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes, you can cancel anytime. You’ll still have access to your stored documents, but the annual check-ins and update reminders will stop.
What happens if I lose my documents?
Don’t worry, your documents are safe. They are stored safely online and if you have subscribed to our physical storage service we hold hard copies too. If you misplace a document, we will help you and your executors get a replacement quickly and with minimal stress.
What are your fees?
Every client’s situation is different, so my fees reflect the level of advice and support you need. As a guide, a standard Will starts from £150, and a Lasting Power of Attorney from £245. My approach is to create bespoke packages tailored to you, whether that is a single document or full estate planning. We can discuss your specific needs and confirm the costs before any work begins, so everything is clear from the start.
What happens when I die?
It is essential that your loved ones and/or executors know how to access your important documents before you die. Telling them where items like your Will are stored is crucial. This helps make things easier for them during what can be an emotional and difficult time. Your Life List can store these documents for you. We also offer an additional service to support your family where possible, helping guide them through the next steps, explaining what needs to happen, and offering care and clarity throughout the process. Please note this is a personal support service and reflects my opinion and experience. It is not formal legal or financial advice.
